QUESTION ASKED : If the key to enlightenment is to become desireless as advocated by Buddha, should we then consider the thirst to experience the ultimate joy as an obstacle that will inevitably prevent us to reach it unless/until that last desire is finally dropped ?

MY VIEW : This is indeed a nice question and I would like to give my expression on this.

It is true that the key to enlightenment is to become desireless.

Here one need to understand the meaning of desireless. Let us understand it step by step.

In common understanding any form of desire is due to our greed. Desire leads to expectation and its end results.

In the path of enlightenment desire is the biggest hurdle as it will lead to paradigm shift and one starts manifesting about the after effects, after becoming enlightened.

A common man will think of impressing the world with his magical powers. He would like to move any object from one place to other without touching, by his power. He would float in air, with stand sever cold without clothing etc etc ( just an example to understand )

The path of enlightenment expects a person to be in shunya Avastha / zero state, that is complete detached from all kind of attachments and desire is one among them. Having control over the panch indriyas ( 5 sense organs )

A person does not focus to get enlightened but to practice the way of living he is taught.

It is not the common man’s way of living but a living involving many achar and vichar ( many actions and thoughts ). There are no time frame bounded with the practice, it is completely depended on the individual’s capacity to learning and understanding.

One can find many sadhus doing penance for long long years and still they did not attend the enlightenment. There are sadhus who spend their whole life in the practicing the path of enlightenment and die, but still, they could not attend it.

The path is not that easy as it seems to be in reading plain text.

Just like a mother risking her life to give birth to a child, carrying it in her womb for nine long months never desire that her child will give her sometime after growing up nor she desire that the child will take care of her in her old age.

She just does her dharma ( motherhood duty ) and give her breast feeding to her child without any desire. Just perform her duty for being a mother.

Desireless is a state of mind when an individual only know to perform and follow a path without thinking of the end results.

This is the reason why not everyone can follow it and not everyone gets enlightened.

Enlightened people who visit internet talking about their experience being enlightened are all bogus / fake.

An enlightened person’s knowledge is infinity and he / she do not need to seek any knowledge from internet and who will write that kind of knowledge for them.

These individuals are fake with desire to show magic to people to attract or impress them. They have their motive behind their act and that’s desire and so they cannot be an enlightened person.

We are continuously running in our life because of our desire and it do not give us a satisfaction after achieving it, and keeps on jumping to the next thing every time and we keep running till the end of our life.

desireless to be enlightenment
