Please do not expect to have good effects / results as soon as one starts doing it. If one has done bad karma in his past then he will take more time and secondly one need to do these from the core of their heart and not because it is told to them.
When one does donations from their hear then GOD becomes happy, and if one does it because it was told to him as a remedy then the act of his do not have love, affection and charity and so GOD is not pleased.
